  • Pinball Dreams - by Antster

    Introduction:

The Super Nintendo entered the world of pinball games with the 1992 game Jaki Crush. Despite the slowdown it was finely crafted into a playable pinball game. then 21st Century brought out their series of pinball games, two of which had Super Famicom translations - Dreams, Fantasies and Illusions. I've played Fantasies and Illusions on the Amiga CD32 (anyone who remembers that will know that it didn't look 32-bit, but more 16-bit), but never Dreams. But here it is. It should also be noted that the PAL version has a Munch Bunch license on it, with the familiar characters from the kiddies' fave yoghurt. There are four tables, each with a specific theme - Ignition (a space theme), Beat Box (pop music), Steel Wheel (Wild West theming) and Graveyard (spooky with ghosts etc).

    Graphics [6.4/10]:

It's a funny thing, is pinball. When played on the SNES, the tables look flat and unimaginative, like here. Lucky it doesn't happen often.

    Music and Sound [7/10]:

Fortunately, there are only a few traks of music, and they are fairly good, and the sounds of the machines are very authentic.

    Game play [6.2/10]:

There are relatively few controls to learn - launch ball, left flipper and right flipper. Very basic and fairly unresponsive at times, and the game tends to slow down at times.

    Challenge and replay [6.5/10]:

Only four tables!? I've got better things to spend my money on. Like £1 coins in proper pinball machines - they last longer and have more features.

    Conclusion/Overall [6.8/10]:

Pinball Dreams is fairly average, but that's high in pinball game standards. There are a lot of mistakes in this game that Fantasies seems to cover up with some fixes.
